The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc., is officially launched!

After several years of discussion and efforts by supporters and promoters of the Epagneul Breton, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to the Epagneul Breton has been established. Gifts and donations will be accepted to support advancement of the breed for educational, scientific and charitable purposes. The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc., has been formally incorporated and organized as a not-for-profit, public-benefit corporation. The Foundation is now operating and has received several gifts and donations. Its long-term vision is to facilitate various categories of charitable giving. The foundation will also provide information and resources through its web site and other communications to assist persons interested in learning more about the breed or contributing to the works of the foundation.

The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc., is in the process of applying for tax-exempt status under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code so that gifts may qualify as tax deductible. Several options are available for persons who wish to make donations in the form of bequests or gifts, memorials and annual affiliations. See Support Us for more information.

A Board of Trustees has been selected to serve three-year staggered terms. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with fund-raising, charity events, research in science and the arts, communication, or other projects is encouraged to contact the foundation.

The late William E. “Peter” Ward and the late Wallace A. Huey made the first significant gifts received by The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc. Their generous gifts were made prior to their respective deaths in 2015. As generous supporters and promoters of the Epagneul Breton breed in the United States for over thirty years of their combined service, Peter and Wallace were catalysts for moving forward with the establishment of the foundation. They both encouraged others to support the work of the foundation, which has received several memorial donations in their honor. Peter and Wallace had both agreed to serve in leadership roles with the foundation, but their respective declines in health and their unexpected losses this past year cut short their formal service to the foundation. While the foundation will miss Peter and Wallace’s active service and leadership, their generosity and examples will long serve to encourage others to support the work and mission of the foundation.

Foundation features artistic interpretations

A major focus of The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc., is to promote the arts as related to the Epagneul Breton. Throughout history, depictions of spaniel-type dogs have appeared in paintings, sculptures and other works as evidence of the relationship these dogs have with their human companions and hunting partners. Several of these notable works will be featured and displayed periodically on the foundation's web site  with detailed information about the pieces and the artists who created them.

The first featured work is a representation of a head study of the Epagneul Breton by Richard Fath (France 1900 - 1952), done on a terra cotta plaque. See Featured Art for more information about this piece of art and the artist.
